The music

Imagined by saxophonist and artist in residence Valentine Michaud, the programme for this final chamber music concert of the season takes the audience on a musical journey through Central Europe, exploring the richness of popular traditions and their influence on the great classical composers.

Passionate about Eastern music and its rhythmic energy, the saxophonist offers an original re-interpretation of often little-known works, highlighting the versatility of the saxophone and the colours of chamber music. The programme includes Dvorák's passionate Gypsy Songs, László Dráscóczy's virtuoso Hungarian Dances of Transylvania, which echo the rhythms of the Romanian countryside, Janácek's Mládí, evoking the composer's youth, and Greetings from the Balkan by Hungarian clarinettist Béla Kovács. The works of Kodály and Martinu, though rooted in twentieth-century modernity, will also bear witness to this heritage, in which each melody tells a story. A concert celebrating the rediscovery of a repertoire that lies between folklore and lyricism!

Concert sponsored by the Fondation Etrillard.
