Afonso Venturieri studied first in Vienna and Berlin and then at the Detmold Academy of Music in the class of Helman Jung, where he graduated with high distinction. He completed his training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of Milan Turković.

The bassoonist of Brazilian origin was a member of the Frankfurt Modern Ensemble and the Salzburg Camerata. In 1987 he was engaged by Armin Jordan to the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande as principal bassoon.

In 1989 he won the First Prize at the International Competition for Wind Instruments organised by the Swiss Union of Musical Artists (USDAM). He also performs as a soloist and in chamber music in various countries in Europe and South America.

He regularly gives workshops and master classes in South America, Canada, Europe and Asia and is also involved in the training of young musicians, for example as a coach of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas.

Afonso Venturieri teaches bassoon at the Geneva University of Music.
