The music

Francesco Piemontesi, artist in residence, joins the musicians of the OSR for a chamber music session with a programme of early works by a Beethoven still imbued with the style of the late 18th century. The three Duos for clarinet and bassoon, written around 1790, are highly prized by conservatoire students and are full of a healthy joviality. Composed in 1794 for advanced amateurs, the Trio op. 87, originally for 2 oboes and cor anglais, was often arranged as required. The Quintet for Piano and Winds, composed two years later, represents one of the young composer’s first great works of chamber music.
