Nuno Osório was born on 14 July 1997 in Vila Nova de Famalicão. He began his musical studies at the Escola Profissional e Artística do Vale do Ave (ARTAVE), where he studied with Professor Rui Fontes between 2009 and 2015. He continued his higher education in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree under the supervision of Petru Iuga and Konstanze Brenner (2015–2019).
Between 2019 and 2021, he attended the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (Switzerland), where he obtained a Master’s degree in Solo Performance under the supervision of Petru Iuga and Gabriel Vacariu.
As an orchestral musician, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with several orchestras, including the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Sinfonie Orchester Biel Solothurn, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester, and the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, amongst others. Since 2021, he has been a member of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva), initially as a section player and, since 2025, as co-principal of the double bass section.
As a soloist, he has performed on numerous occasions with orchestras. In 2017, he performed Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto with the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester. In 2021, he performed Koussevitzky’s Concerto with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and recorded the CD The Soul of the Double Bass, in collaboration with pianist Yukiko Tanaka.
He has been recognised in several national and international competitions, notably with an honourable mention at the Prémio Jovens Músicos (advanced level, 2013), first prize at the Galicia Graves International Competition (Spain, 2016), second prize at the Concurso Vasco Barbosa (2015), 2nd prize at the Prémio Jovens Músicos (2017), 2nd place at the Latin Orchestra of Europe International Online Competition (2021) and 3rd place at the Recital Music Composition Competition (2021).
He is regularly invited to give masterclasses.
He is currently also principal lecturer in double bass at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, Sion campus, in Switzerland.
