OCO-Motion succeeded the Orchestre du Cycle d'Orientation (created in the 1970s by Amand Dewaele, then taken over by Jean-Louis Rebut and Andras Farkas). This ensemble offered a centralised weekly rehearsal for all the OC students in the canton of Geneva. After 30 very successful years, the formula ran out of steam, and the Orchestra had fewer and fewer students.

In 2006, Georges Schürch (then Director General of the C.O.) proposed a new organisation: co-directed by Philippe Genevay and Olivier Rogg - music teachers, arrangers and composers - and re-baptised the OCO-Motion, this new C.O. orchestra is organised as a network, with variable geometry, bringing together instrumental workshops or optional music courses from different collèges of the Cycle d'Orientation. Vocal workshops, choirs and solo singers are also regularly involved.

The musical arrangements, specifically designed for the levels of the C.O. students, are delivered on a turnkey basis to the various entities taking part in each project: all instruments are accepted on condition of a basic level of mastery and the ability to read simple scores.

In this way, year after year, the OCO-Motion has brought together all kinds of instruments, from the most traditional (violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, piano, harp, etc.) to the most modern (accordion, electric guitar, synthesiser, and percussion of all kinds).
