The music
In post-World War II Paris, Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly), a broke but talented American painter, tries to make a name for himself in the artistic capital. He spends his days painting and sharing moments with his friends, including Adam (Oscar Levant), a sarcastic pianist, and Henri (Georges Guétary), a successful cabaret singer.
One day, a wealthy patron, Milo Roberts (Nina Foch), notices his talent and decides to support him, hoping to win his affection in return. But Jerry falls madly in love with Lise (Leslie Caron), a mysterious young woman. What he doesn’t know is that Lise is already engaged to Henri, who protected her during the war.
As Jerry and Lise secretly fall for each other, their fates intertwine in a vibrant Paris, filled with elegant balls, lively cafés, and mesmerizing performances. Caught between dreams and reality, the trio must choose between reason and passion.
With the enchanting music of George Gershwin and a dazzling production, An American in Paris is a captivating tribute to love, art, and the City of Light.
