Ernst van Tiel is a celebrated, multi-genre conductor known for his brilliant and insightful performances of classical, jazz and film music. He is a frequent collaborator with various Dutch broadcasting orchestras including the Radio Philharmonic and Metropole Orchestra. He regularly conducts prestigious orchestras worldwide including the Rotterdam Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestra, OBC Barcelona, La Verdi Milano, Santa Cecilia Roma, 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

As a specialist in film concerts with live orchestra, van Tiel has conducted performances of iconic scores from Alexander Nevski to Star WarsVertigo to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the Harry Potter series.

His albums range from Ludovic Bource’s Oscar, Bafta and César-winning original score to The Artist with the Brussels Philharmonic and its 10th Anniversary recording with the BBC Symphony to Maxim Vengerov’s interpretation of Wieniawski’s violin concertos to the chart-topping Foreigner with the 21st Century Orchestra, featuring the iconic band’s biggest hits with orchestra.

His opera and ballet highlights include 22 performances of Rudolf Nureyev’s La Bayadère Opéra de Bastille in Paris in 2022; and productions of Elektra, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Rigoletto.

Highlights of the 24/25 season include his debut with the Oslo Philharmonic, his debut with the Orchestre National de Toulouse, and his 20th production with the Orchestre National de Lyon.

Ernst van Tiel studied conducting at the Conservatory of Utrecht and with Franco Ferrara, Gary Bertini, Jean Fournet, and Lucas Vis.
