The music

This programme “Made in USA" on the eve of the American elections presents two enfants terribles whose music has marked the 20th century. George Crumb's Makrosmos III (1974) uses 2 amplified pianos and a spectacular percussion with colours ranging from violence to dreams. Composed between 1984 and 1985, Steve Reich's Sextet plays on the influences of African music plated on ambiguous rhythms creating great fascination.

It is one of the favourite pieces of the composer, father – together with Terry Riley and Philip Glass - of American minimalism born in the early 1960s.
