
Born in 1997, Mario Bruno began playing the flute under Antonio Amenduni at the Conservatorio di Musica Umberto Giordano - Foggia, where he graduated in 2015 with full marks, cum laude, and honorable mention. He then continued his studies with Michele Marasco at the Accademia Italiana del Flauto, and in 2020, he completed his Master’s degree with distinction in Davide Formisano’s class at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. Currently, he is pursuing the Excellence in Performance course and a Master’s in New Music under Andrea Lieberknecht at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
Since 2005, he has distinguished himself with a remarkable career, winning numerous first prizes in prestigious competitions. In 2022, he was awarded the First Prize (with the second not assigned) and a Special Prize for performing a contemporary piece at the 10th Kobe International Flute Competition. That same year, he won the 2nd Prize at the 71st ARD International Music Competition. In 2023, he earned the 2nd Prize at the 77th Geneva International Music Competition, where he also received several awards, including the Audience Prize, the Students’ Prize, and the Orchestra Prize from the members of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
He has performed as a soloist worldwide and is regularly invited to major international festivals as a guest artist, masterclass teacher, and jury member. He has played in renowned ensembles and orchestras, such as Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester, SWR Symphonieorchester, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Bach Collegium München, under conductors such as Patrick Gallois, Andrea Raffanini, and Adam Hickox.
Since August 2021, he has been Principal Flute at the Staatsorchester Kassel.
