The music
The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande returns to the world of Lili Boulanger with D’un soir triste, the final orchestral work by this dazzlingly talented composer. Navigating the interplay of light and shadow, her composition reveals a surprising maturity, with rich orchestral colours.
This is followed by Schumann’s Piano Concerto, which combines poetry, lyricism and virtuosity in a refined dialogue between the soloist and the orchestra. This concert marks the eagerly awaited debut of pianist Beatrice Rana with the OSR, conducted by Alan Gilbert.
The journey continues with Debussy’s Jeux, composed shortly before his death, demonstrating his orchestral audacity right up to his final years. Ravel’s flamboyant Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé, originally created for the famous Ballets Russes, brings the programme to a close with a veritable orchestral fireworks display.
