CAPUÇON PLAYS STRAVINSKY
Helios, overture op. 17
Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major
The Firebird, ballet (1910)
Very close to the OSR and its founder Ernest Ansermet, Stravinsky wrote an orchestral suite from his opera The Firebird especiallyfor the OSR, but this evening we will indeed hear the complete ballet in its opulent original version from 1910. Composed 20 years later in a neoclassical style, Stravinsky’s Violin Concertois in a completely different vein. A veritable hymn to the sun, Carl Nielsen's Helios Overture is a vibrant homage to the Mediterranean light by a man from the North.
