News list

The OSR is delighted to be inaugurating the new Noda BCVS concert and conference hall in Sion on 26 August. A new cultural hub in the heart of Sion, this exceptional venue has been designed to promote the cultural and economic influence of the Valais region. Its opening therefore represents a perfect opportunity to make the word ‘Romand’ resonate in the hearts of the musicians of the OSR, perfectly embodying the idea of local excellence and national influence. The Orchestra will be conducted by Lorenzo Viotti, from the canton of Vaud, whom we recently met at a concert on 4 and 5 June, and who, in the words of critic Claudio Poloni, is ‘perfectly in command of his resources and already very much in tune with the OSR’. On this occasion, he will be joined on stage by Janine Jansen, a violinist from the Valais and co-artistic director of the Sion Festival, for a performance of Mendelssohn's famous Violin Concerto No. 2. The programme also includes a piece by Valais composer Andreas Zurbriggen, as well as Schubert's 2nd Symphony.

This opening evening is a vibrant tribute to the richness of Swiss music, combining tradition and modernity, established and emerging talents. A celebration that resonates far beyond the mountains of the Valais.
