The season opened with a bang on 3 and 4 September, with the world premiere of Swiss composer Beat Furrer's latest creation, Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by pianist Francesco Piemontesi and conducted by Jonathan Nott.
Flirting with different disciplines such as visual arts and literature, Furrer offers a rich and subversive soundscape in this new piece. In residence at the OSR in 2020-21, the pianist skilfully expressed the composer's dense and rich music, who was present that evening at Victoria Hall.
As part of an exceptional partnership with Uni3, the two artists gave a lecture to members earlier in the week. Moderated by journalist Julian Sykes, the discussion followed one of the concert rehearsals. A wonderful opportunity for exchange!
