Following the great success of a new production of Berg's Wozzeck at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 2017, Stefan Blunier was immediately re-engaged for a new production of Baron Tzigane with the OSR in December 2017. His other operatic engagements have taken him to the Operas of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Montpellier, Oslo, Bern and London. This year he is invited to conduct Carmen at the Frankfurt Opera.
He has also been invited to conduct numerous radio orchestras in Germany, as well as in Belgium, Denmark, Far East, Switzerland and France. Recent engagements include the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Radio Orchestra of Munich, the Southern Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, among others.
Stefan Blunier was born in Bern, Switzerland. He studied piano, horn, composition and conducting in his hometown and at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. He is also one of the founders of the Ensemble für Neue Musik Essen.
