The Grand Théâtre de Genève is one of Switzerland’s leading cultural institutions and a prominent opera house in Europe.
Each season, it presents a rich and varied programme combining opera, dance, recitals and cultural events. Its opera season, comprising eight to ten productions, combines the great classics of the repertoire, rare works, contemporary creations, forays into the world of musical theatre and concert versions of operas. It primarily features the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Grand Théâtre’s principal artistic partner.
Dance also plays a significant role, with three choreographic programmes bringing together some of the most acclaimed artists on the international contemporary scene. Through ‘L’Autre Scène’, the Grand Théâtre explores more intimate and inventive forms of musical theatre, some of which are specially designed for young audiences and families. This programme is complemented by dozens of artistic, cultural and participatory events – talks, workshops, conferences and collaborative projects – brought together under the ‘Grand Théâtre Autrement’, ‘Grand Théâtre Jeunesse’ and ‘Grand Théâtre Ensemble’ initiatives, which demonstrate the institution’s commitment to its audiences and its numerous cultural, educational and community partners in the Geneva region. With over 80,000 audience members welcomed and nearly 80 performances each season, the Grand Théâtre is a major player in Geneva’s cultural life. Its operations rely on the skills of 320 staff members, who represent a remarkable diversity of professions and expertise within the Chorus, the Ballet, the workshops, the technical teams and the administration.
From the 2026/27 season onwards, Alain Perroux will take over as the institution’s general manager. His inaugural season, entitled ‘New Worlds’, invites audiences to discover new narratives and to bring as many people as possible together around works performed by some of the most renowned artists and emerging talents, with the aim of stirring the emotions and sparking curiosity.
