Gautier Capuçon is one of today's most eminent ambassadors of the cello. A native of Chambéry, he began playing the cello when he was five. He studied at the CNSM in Paris with Philippe Muller and Annie Cochet-Zakine, then in Vienna with Heinrich Schiff.

Today he performs concerts worldwide, with the most prestigious orchestras and conductors such as Gergiev, Dudamel and Dutoit. In the 2021/22 season he is an artist-in-residence at the Vienna Konzerthaus. In addition, he performs with the Vienna Philharmonic and Altinoglu, NY Philharmonic with Long, Concertgebouw with Chung, Orchestre de Paris and Salonen, San Francisco Symphony and Cleveland with MTT and performs the world premieres of the cello concertos by Lera Auerbach and Danny Elfman.

Gautier Capuçon's extensive discography has been honoured with numerous awards. His latest album, Emotions, with Ducros and the Orchestre de chambre de Paris (the Paris Chamber Orchestra) conducted by Perruchon, will be released in November 2020 and Souvenirs in November 2021.

A star artist in France, he has appeared in various programmes: Prodiges and Symphony for Life. He also hosts his own programme on Radio Classique: Les carnets de Gautier Capuçon. In addition, he directs the Cello Class of Excellence in Paris, which he created in 2014. In January 2022, Gautier Capuçon founded his own Foundation to help talented young musicians start their careers and thus extend its commitment to young artists.

Awarded numerous prizes, he is hailed for the intense expression of his playing, his flamboyant virtuosity and the deep sound he draws from "L'ambassadeur", his sumptuous 1701 Matteo Goffriller cello.
