Museum of Art and History (MAH)
Genève

Built by Geneva architect Marc Camoletti to bring together different public collections under one roof, the Musée d'art et d'histoire was inaugurated in 1910. Its collection is highly diversified: paintings and sculptures, graphic arts, archaeological collections, furniture and domestic objects, weapons, musical instruments, textiles, watches, enamelware and jewelry. Only a small proportion of these 650,000 objects are on permanent display. Temporary exhibitions regularly show new aspects of the collection.
With a collection of over half a million objects spanning fifteen thousand years in fields as varied as archaeology, painting, sculpture, works on paper, coins, furniture and other everyday objects, as well as watches and jewelry, the Musée d'art et d'histoire is one of Europe's leading encyclopedic institutions. Engaged in a vast process of strategic reflection and transformation, which has led to the updating of its vision, mission and values, the MAH's long-term ambition is to become a dynamic cultural hub for Geneva and the surrounding region, and an internationally renowned laboratory for imagining and advancing the museum in the 21st century. To this end, it explores the potential of the museum, connecting people and highlighting the multiple expressions of the creative spirit, across places, mediums and eras, and is prefigured in the new expansion and renovation project currently underway.
