The great Korean conductor, Myung-Whun Chung has chosen Verdi's impressive Requiemfor his first appearance at the reins of the OSR. His presence, together with that of the Rome’s famous Coro dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, is the highlight that closes our season. Verdi takes hold of the liturgical text, infusing it with a romantic vision and a weight of extraordinary humanity, using all his knowledge of the voice and the emotion it conveys. The power of the Dies Irae has often been compared to that of Michelangelo's Last Judgement, which Verdi particularly liked. A great production not to be missed
