the music

In Apparitions, György Ligeti radicalizes the serial technique by creating a world of extremely complex musical intertwining’s leading to a troubled and mysterious sound universe. Influenced by the seductive Nocturnes of the English painter Whistler, Debussy composed his Trois Nocturnes for orchestra, the second of which, Fêtes, describes a fantasized July 14, crossed by a chimerical and colorful procession. Presented in Dresden for the first European audition by our conductor Jonathan Nott, the Four Parables (Four Parables) by the American composer Paul Schoenfield, composed in 1982, has its eye on the side of parody, remembering George Gershwin above all as European composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. This amusing medley of American popular music deals with four tragicomic miscellaneous events witnessed by the composer. We meet a quadriplegic murderer, an elderly man regretting his past youth, a young man who died of refusing medical care and two children who receive a dog as punishment, all in an irresistible jazzy style.
