Founded in 2006 from the merger of two bicentennial schools, the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Haute école d'Arts appliqués, HEAD – Geneva draws on a rich cultural and artistic tradition to promote young creativity at the national and international level. Renowned for the quality of its Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Visual Arts, Film, Spatial Design, Visual Communication and Fashion, Jewellery and Accessories Design, it has established itself as one of the best art and design schools in Europe.

Within the Visual Communication department, the Bachelor's programme in Illustration focuses on practices involving storytelling through images: illustration, comic strips and animation. Over three years, students acquire traditional and digital tools to develop their creative approach. They experiment with drawing and image creation techniques in all their forms and practise their skills in storytelling, scriptwriting and message formulation.

Numerous assignments integrated into the curriculum allow students to face real-world constraints and adapt their projects to different communication media in order to respond to commissioned work, which promotes successful professional integration.

It is in this collaborative context that third-year Bachelor's students in Illustration created a series of animated tableaux based on the work of Mussorgsky for the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

These animations were created as part of an illustration workshop taught by Olivier Riechsteiner, Claudy Iannone and Helge Reumann.
