The Haute école de musique de Genève (HEM) is a higher education institution for music based in Geneva and Neuchâtel. It grew out of the professional courses offered by three institutions : the Geneva Conservatoire of Music, the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute and the Neuchâtel Conservatoire of Music. The HEM covers a historical and stylistic range stretching from medieval music to contemporary composition, whilst also encompassing non-western music. It attracts over 600 students – from all five continents – who are taught by around a hundred highly qualified teachers and guest speakers who are active in the artistic and academic worlds.
Firmly rooted in the region’s cultural life, the HEM is an artistic and educational community of international renown. Its students and teachers collaborate with the OSR on numerous projects, notably by organizing joint orchestra academies and offering a joint course, the DAS in Orchestral Practice, which aims to deepen and broaden students’ skills in the field of orchestral practice.
