News list

The OSR is delighted to announce Martyna Szymczak's appointment as assistant conductor for the next two seasons. Born in Poland, Ms Szymczak studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, subsequently becoming assistant conductor at the Polish National Opera and, most recently, at the Gothenburg Opera in Sweden (2024–2026).

The OSR musicians selected the young conductor as the winner from four finalists who conducted the orchestra during a public competition held on 17 February at Victoria Hall. Congratulations to Sunwoo Jeong, Erle Kont and Rira Kim for their participation and talent.

This appointment continues the OSR’s initiative, launched four years ago, to reserve this post for female conductors, and makes Martyna Szymczak the third woman to hold this position.
The orchestra is excited about this new collaboration, which is part of its strong commitment to promoting diversity and equality in musical leadership.
