Born in Toronto to an Italian family, Luca started playing violin under the Suzuki method at the age of three. In his youth, he was principal viola for the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and was a member of the New York String Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.
Luca went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London as a scholarship student of Rachel Roberts and has since played regularly in orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He has been a guest principal with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera. Luca also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto.
Luca plays on a beautiful new instrument built in 2019 by fellow Canadian, Ian McWillams.
Luca Casciato joined the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in December 2022.
