Hungarian filmmaker Kornél Mundruczó is often a guest at festivals. In Cannes, he won the "Un certain regard" prize in 2014 with White God, while Jupiter's Moon is part of the official selection of the 2017 edition. Pleasant Days won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2002, while his latest feature Pieces of a Woman has been nominated for the 2020 Venice Film Festival. Kornél Mundruczó continues to direct in parallel, notably with his company Proton Theatre but also with various fixed ensembles such as the Thalia Theater. In opera, he directed Béla Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle in 2014 and The Makropoulos Affair in 2016, both for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.

Voyage vers l'Espoir was to have been his premiere at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in the 2019-2020 season. The production of L'Affaire Makropoulos was finally christened in October 2020, followed by the Swiss premiere of Peter Eötvös' Sleepless in 2021.
