
English tenor Jeremy Ovenden is recognised as one of the world's finest interpreters of Mozart, having collaborated on stage and in the recording studio with Daniel Barenboim, Fabio Biondi, Ivor Bolton, Myung-Whun Chung, Alessandro De Marchi, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Sir Simon Rattle among other leading interpreters.
On the opera stage, he has appeared in the title role of Mozart’s Lucio Silla for La Monnaie in Brussels; as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Edinburgh Festival and the Staatsoper Berlin, as Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Bayerische Staatsoper and in Aix-en-Provence, as Tito in La clemenza di Tito for Théâtre Capitole de Toulouse, Teatro Real Madrid, MusikTheater an der Wien, Angers Nantes Opéra, Opéra de Rennes and Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. Other roles include Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea and the title role in L‘Orfeo; Bajazet in Handel’s Tamerlano; Tigrane in Radamisto; Grimoaldo in Rodelinda and Jupiter in Semele, as well as Belfiore in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera. he has been invited to sing the title role of Idomeneo by leading international theatres and festivals such as Theater an der Wien, Teatro Real de Madrid, the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, and most recently at the Stuttgart Opera.
Further recent projects have included Handel’s Semele at the Handel Festival Göttingen, Jephtha with Les Talens Lyriques under Christophe Rousset, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion under Ivor Bolton in Amsterdam and La clemenza di Tito at the Wiener Festwochen. Later this season Jeremy Ovenden will take on the role of Coraggio in the world premiere of I Grotteschi at La Monnaie in Brussels, a piece based on Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria and L'incoronazione di Poppea, devised by director Rafael R. Villalobos. In concert he returns to Madrid with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España Ariel and Pater Ecstaticus in Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust under David Afkham.
