
Georg Fritzsch was born in Meißen and studied at the "Carl Maria von Weber" University of Music in Dresden. He performed as solo cellist with the Gera Philharmonic Orchestra and completed his studies as a conductor in Dresden and Leipzig.
From 2003 to 2019 he was the General Music Director of the Kiel Opera House. He was appointed General Music Director of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe and the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe from the 2020 / 2021 season.
With an extensive symphonic and operatic repertoire that ranges from Bach to contemporary music, Georg Fritzsch led numerous prestigious orchestras including the Sächsiche Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresdner Philharmonie, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Gürzenich Orchester Köln and abroad the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchester Basel, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland among others.
On the occasion of the re-opening of the Grans Théâtre de Genève in 2019 was the musical director of three complete Ring-Cycles staged by Dieter Dorn. Upcoming engagements include appearances at the Stuttgart and Dresden State Operas, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and in Korea.
Georg Fritzsch is noted for his large repertoire and is an excellent inter-preter of the works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Strauss and Wagner, leading several world premieres (works by Matthus, CristóbalHalffter, Kunad).
