Georg Fritzsch was born in Meißen and studied at the "Carl Maria von Weber" University of Music in Dresden. He performed as solo cellist with the Gera Philharmonic Orchestra and completed his studies as a conductor in Dresden and Leipzig.

After his first engagements as Music Director of the South Westphalia Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director of the Hagen Theatre, Maestro Fritzsch established himself as a much sought-after conductor. He performs regularly in the great German opera houses, such as the Dresden, Hanover and Stuttgart Staatsopers, as well as in the Düsseldorf and Essen opera houses. He has conducted, among others, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Radio Orchestra Berlin and abroad. He conducted the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande for three complete cycles of Richard Wagner's Ring at the Grand Théâtre de Genève during the 2018-2019 season. Formerly Music Director of the Kiel Opera, Maestro Fritzsch will take up a new position as Music Director of the Badische Staatskapelle and the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe for the season 2020-2021.

Georg Fritzsch has recorded for the CPO, Orfeo and RCA Victor Red Seal labels and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich.
