
Barbara Dragan is an accomplished conductor with a diverse international career. A former Young Associate Conductor at the Orchestre National de France, she has led prestigious ensembles such as the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, RTVE Orquesta y Coro Madrid, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Musikkollegium Winterthur, and Orchestre national d'Île-de-France.
In 2024, she conducted the pre-recordings for the entire Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with both the Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre National de France. Barbara Dragan has held fellowships at the Cabrillo New Music Festival in Santa Cruz, the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, and was appointed Conducting Fellow at the Dallas Opera for the 2021-22 season. She has also been a finalist in prestigious international conducting competitions, including the Mahler Competition in Bamberg, the Princess Astrid International Music Competition in Trondheim, the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Monaco, and the German Conducting Award in Cologne.
Barbara Dragan is a current Deutsche Bank Stiftung Akademie Musiktheater Heute scholarship holder. She balances a career in both concert and opera conducting. A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and the Universität der Künste in Berlin, she began her musical studies at the age of five, initially in violin and later adding the oboe.
