
Asmik Grigorian was born in Vilnius into a family of opera artists. Her international career began with a triumphant performance of Madama Butterfly at the Kungliga Operan (the Royal Swedish Opera) in Stockholm. She then conquered role after role in the most prestigious opera houses: from the Wiener Staatsoper (the Vienna State Opera) to the Teatro alla Scala (La Scala Theatre), from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden to the Liceu Opera Barcelona, from the Bolshoi to the Staatsoper Berlin (the Berlin State Opera), she was invited for Marie (Wozzeck), Iolanta, Chrysothemis (Elektra), Rusalka, Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd), among others; In the summer of 2021, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival with Senta (Der fliegende Holländer). Her performances include Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14 with the OSR and Beethoven's Ninth at the Salzburg Festival.
In 2021-22, she gave numerous recitals and took on the roles of Jenufa, Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Salome ("a Salome to end all Salomes,” said the Financial Times about her performance), Marie (Wozzeck), Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly), Iolanta, Manon Lescaut, Rusalka, Lisa (Queen of Spades) and Fedora.
Asmik Grigorian was awarded the Lithuanian Golden Stage Cross twice and the Austrian Musiktheaterpreis 2019 for Best Female Leading Role of the Year.
She is an official ambassador of the Rimantas Kaukenas charity, based in her hometown. She is also a co-founder of the Vilnius City Opera, which she regularly visits.
