activities and concerts for schools
The OSR offers many educational activities for children and school pupils.
Concerts for schools at the Victoria Hall
These concerts are offered to classes at all 3 levels of education: Primary (6-12 years old), Guidance Cycle (12-15 years old) and Secondary II (15-19 years old).
The pupils prepare for the concerts with their teacher thanks to a comprehensive educational programme complied by the OSR, especially adapted for Primary classes.
Each concert features a commentary by the conductor or a narrator.
The Educational Programme
The activities included in the educational programme allow 20 classes each year to discover and share the life of an orchestra from the inside by participating in various workshops. The pupils can then attend the concert with one of their parents, and discover the result of everything they have learnt in preparation.
The OSR and the Orchestra in the Classroom
The Orchestra in the Classroom (Orchestre en classe) is the result of a collaboration between the Département de l'instruction publique (DIP), the Conservatoire populaire de musique, danse et théâtre de Genève and the Accademia d'Archi, whereby students follow a weekly instrumental teaching course during school hours for two years.
The OSR's education department has been involved in this project for the past six years, allowing young people to perform with OSR musicians on the stage of Geneva's Victoria Hall during the Fête de la Musique.
The 2021 edition will bring together wind and string classes in a varied and festive programme.
The Tour of French-speaking Switzerland
Instigated and supported by Loterie Romande, the OSR lives up to its regional dimension with this annual tour of the 5 French-speaking cantons thanks to a series of concerts especially for children.
On our French version of this site, you can find a space where children can learn the instruments of the orchestra through a series of online games. This gives them the additional opportunity to enhance their French vocabulary!
These resources are currently only available in French.
