Born in China, Yao Jin began playing the cello at the age of 8. In 2002, she entered the Beijing Conservatory of Music and continued her studies at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in the class of Professor Wolfgang Aichinger, where she obtained her Master's degree.

She is a member of the Pacific Music Festival and the Angelika Prokopp Akademieder Wiener Philharmonikern.

Since 2010, Yao Jin is regularly invited to play in Vienna with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Klangforum.

In 2016, she becomes a tenured member of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
