Samuel Jiménez-Collazos

Born in Colombia, violinist Samuel Jiménez-Collazos earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Conservatorio del Tolima under José de los Santos Pérez and two Master’s degrees in Performance and Soloist Studies from the Musik Akademie Basel with Barbara Doll and Raphaël Oleg.

Samuel Jiménez-Collazos began his orchestral career at fifteen and has nearly eight years of experience as a concertmaster. In this role, he led youth orchestras in Colombia, including the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia and Filarmónica Juvenil de Bogotá, under Carlos Villa. He also appeared as a guest concertmaster in Chile and Spain. He further performed as a soloist in Colombia, Chile, Germany and Switzerland with orchestras including the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Bogotá Philharmonic, Cali Philharmonic, and Camerata Franconia. 

Since moving to Switzerland, he continued his orchestral career and won academist positions with the Sinfonieorchester Basel and Opernhaus Zürich. In 2026, he joined the second violin section of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

A passionate chamber musician, Samuel Jiménez-Collazos was a member of the Sociedad de Música de Cámara de Bogotá and has been a member of the Opalio Piano Quintet since 2020.

Samuel Jiménez-Collazos is a recipient of First Prize at the Frank Preuss International Violin Competition and the Premio de Interpretación para Jóvenes Solistas in Bogotá. He performs on a 1972 Sergio Peresson violin and a C.H.K. Schmidt bow, generously on loan from the Pirolo Foundation.
