Maria José Siri

Maria José Siri has been recognized as one of the most important sopranos of the international operatic panorama. With a repertoire spanning from Belcanto to Verismo, she distinguished herself as an acclaimed interpreter of the most famous heroines of Verdi and Puccini.
Uruguayan born of Italian origin, she began studying music at a very young age, then went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire and later on with Ileana Cotrubaș.

Maria made her European debut in 2008 as Leonora in Il Trovatore at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and as Aida at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan afterwards.
Maria's career rapidly took off since then, especially in 2016, when she opened La Scala's season as Madama Butterfly, then as Manon Lescaut and Francesca da Rimini.

She has shot to stardom in 2017, when she landed the prestigious International Opera Award “Oscar della Lirica”.
She has performed in the most important Italian theatres, with a special and long-lasting relationship with the Arena di Verona.

Maria José Siri has established an abiding connection with the major theatres of Italy, Germany, Spain and Belgium as well as opera houses of Latin America, Japan, Russia, Israel and Eastern Countries.
Amongst the most beloved roles of her, it is worth to mention Aida, with more than 170 performances to date, Odabella, Abigaille, Elisabetta di Valois, Lucrezia Contarini, as well as Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Suor Angelica and Adriana Lecouvreur.
In 2022, she debuted at the prestigious Royal Opera House, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and Musikverein Graz.

Maria José Siri has a large discography of CD and DVD recordings, such as Messa per Rossini and Madama Butterfly (Decca), Don Giovanni, Trittico, Attila, Nabucco, I due Foscari, Norma, Adriana Lecouvreur (Naxos and Dynamic).

Recent performances include Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo at La Scala, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Abigaille, performed both at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste and at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville in her recent house debut which obtained an enormous success from public and critics, as well as her rendering of Aida, performed at the Arena di Verona Opera Festival this summer. Recently she performed in Andrea Chenier at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Aida in Verona and Monte Carlo, Nabucco in Verona, as well as concerts with Maestro Plácido Domingo in Cologne (Uruguay), Skopje (Macedonia), as well as in Cologne, Munich, Berlin, and Frankfurt (Germany). 

Highlights of the 2025/26 season include Tosca in Sofia, Nabucco in Budapest, Aida in Palermo, Aida and Nabucco at the Arena di Verona, as well as a concert with Maestro Plácido Domingo at the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna.
