Alexandre Emard began playing the oboe at the age of 8 with Alain Milan (Joué-Lès-Tours), then Bernard Delcambre (CNR Nantes) and Michel Giboureau (CNR Saint-Maur des Fossés).

A winner of the Concours Européen de Musique en Picardie and the UFAM international competition, Alexandre Emard entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of David Walter and Frédéric Tardy, where he was awarded a first prize in 2002, as well as a first prize for chamber music in the wind quintet in the class of Maurice Bourgue. During his studies, he performed regularly with the Tours Opera Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris.

From 2000 to 2002 Alexandre was principal oboe with the European Union Youth Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Colin Davis, Paavo Järvi and Yakov Kreizberg. In 2001 he also performed as principal oboe at the 20th Century Academy under the direction of Myung-Whun Chung and Jonathan Nott. In 2012 he was invited by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam for its tour of Asia conducted by Myung-Whun Chung. He works regularly with Teodor Currentzis' Music Aeterna Orchestra. He played at the opening of the Salzburg Festival and recorded Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. He will join the Soloist Academy from 2019 to 2021.

Alexandre Emard has been principal English horn of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande since 2002.
