Born in Tokyo, Mieko Miyazaki began her koto studies with Tomizo Huruya and Sachiko Tamura. Admitted to the Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music, her training was crowned by an invitation to perform as a soloist in the presence of Japan's imperial couple.
Chosen by the Japan Foundation to represent Japan at international cultural events, her concerts in Asia, Europe and the United States have established her as a leading concert artist.

Her work The Current is considered by Hogaku Journal specialists to be one of the 30 most beautiful compositions of all time for the koto.
In 2005, she moved to France, where she was just an anonymous musician playing an instrument unknown to the European public. Against all odds, her career took on a worldwide dimension.

Mieko performs regularly as a soloist and collaborates on a wide range of projects with jazz masters Nguyên Lê, Michel Benita and Dominique Cravic; Carlotta Ikeda, the famous Butô dancer; and numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles. A magical and unlikely encounter with the Corsican voices of Voce Ventu gave rise to the album Tessi Tessi (daqui/Harmonia Mundi) and the documentary Quand les îles se rencontrent.

To promote her instrument and Japanese music, she took part in The Voice on TF1, Jean-François Zygel's La boite à musique on France 2 and numerous programmes on France Musique.

After 17 years of research and reflection, in 2020 she produced the world premiere transcription of Bach's Goldberg Variations for solo koto.
