Midori is a visionary artist, activist and educator who explores the connection between music and the human experience. She breaks traditional boundaries, making her one of the preeminent violinists of our time.

As one of the leading concert violinists for almost 40 years, Midori has performed with the London, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco Symphony Orchestras, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and the Wiener Philharmoniker, among others. She has worked with such outstanding musicians as Claudio Abbado, Emanuel Ax, Leonard Bernstein, Jonathan Biss, Constantinos Carydis, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniel Harding, Paavo Järvi, Mariss Jansons, Yo-Yo Ma, Susanna Mälkki, Joana Mallwitz, Antonello Manacorda, Zubin Mehta, Donald Runnicles, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Kent Nagano and Omer Meir Wellber.

Midori's most recent recording with the Festival Strings Lucerne of Beethoven's Violin Concertoand two Romances was released by Warner Classics in October 2020. Her discography on Sony Classical, Ondine and Onyx includes recordings of Bloch, Janáček and Shostakovich as well as a Grammy Award-winning recording of Hindemith's Violin Concerto with Christoph Eschenbach conducting the NDR Sinfonieorcheste and Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.

In recognition of her work as an artist and humanitarian aid worker, she is a United Nations Messenger of Peace. Most recently, she has worked with the Afghan Youth Orchestra and the Afghan Women's Orchestra Zohra, who have been evacuated since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021 and have found refuge in Portugal.

Midori was born in Osaka in 1971 and began taking violin lessons with her mother Setsu Goto at an early age. In 1982, conductor Zubin Mehta invited the then 11-year-old Midori to perform with the New York Philharmonic in the orchestra's annual New Year's Eve concert, which laid the foundation for her future career.

She plays a Guarnerius del Gesù 'ex-Huberman' from 1734, with four bows from the houses of Dominique Peccatte, François Peccatte and Paul Siefried.
