Brilliantly used by Stanley Kubrick in his famous film 2001, A Space Odyssey, the opening bars of Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra mark the beginning of our journey to the cosmos. First stop: the constellation Orion, home to the seven stars described in Winter Sky, a magical score by Kajia Saariaho. Jabba the Hutt appeared for the first time in Return of the Jedi accompanied by the harrowing music of John Williams, the composer of Star Wars. Our journey fittingly concludes with a beautiful musical tour of the entire solar system in The Planets, the well-known orchestral suite by Gustav Holst.
