Romain Mayor

Swiss choral and orchestral conductor Romain Mayor began his music studies at the age of six with piano, before going on to study singing, conducting and musicology, receiving the guidance of musicians such as Celso Antunes, Laurent Gay, Florian Ziemen, Peter Broadbent, Florian Ludwig, Antonello Allemandi, Christian Immler, Frédéric Gindraux and Helmut Deutsch.

As principal conductor, he leads the Motet de Genève, the J.S. Bach Choir of Lausanne, Chant Sacré Genève, and the Ensemble Post-Scriptum which he founded. In oratorio concerts, he regularly collaborates with orchestras such as the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, as well as various other professional ensembles in Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan. He has also conducted a purely orchestral repertoire at the invitation of the Orchestre Symphonique Genevois and Sinfonietta Bern.

For the Claves Records label, Romain Mayor conducted on the recording of La Veillée, an unpublished lyrical suite by Jaques-Dalcroze, whose release was warmly received by critics in several international specialist journals. Involved with the Motet through the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève,, he has also prepared the choir for these institutions’ concerts and seasonal productions on numerous occasions.

A professor of singing and conducting and head of the Choral Conducting certificate programme in Lausanne, Mayor is regularly invited to lead workshops and masterclasses, as well as serving on juries for choral singing competitions and conservatoires. He is also organist and musical director for the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Geneva.

Romain Mayor studied at the Geneva and Lausanne HEMs, as well as at the Bern University of the Arts. He holds a certificate in piano, the Fritz Bach Prize from the Crescendo Foundation, two specialised Master’s degrees in Choral Conducting (with distinction) and vocal performance, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Orchestral Conducting obtained with the highest distinction.
