Milo Rau

Born in Bern in 1977, Milo Rau has been NTGent's artistic director since the 2018-19 season. He studied sociology, German and Romance languages and literature in Paris, Berlin and Zurich with Pierre Bourdieu and Tzvetan Todorov, among others. Since 2002, he has published over 50 plays, films, books and actions. In 2007, he founded the IIPM - International Institute of Political Murder, based in Switzerland and Germany. His productions are presented at all the major international festivals, including the Berlin Theatertreffen, the Festival d'Avignon, the Venice Biennale, the Wiener Festwochen and the Kunsten festival des arts Bruxelles, and tour in over 30 countries. Rau has received numerous awards, the most recent being the Peter Weiss Prize 2017, the 3sat Prize 2017 and the Saarbrücken Poetics Lectureship for Drama 2017. In addition to his work for stage and film, Milo Rau teaches directing, cultural theory and social sculpture at universities and art schools.
