Winner of the Montreux Jazz Talent Awards 2019 and nominated at the Swiss Live Talents Award 2022, Afra Kane, from Neuchâtel by adoption, is a singer-songwriter of international stature with an eclectic musical and cultural background.
Afra Kane’s sensitive nature is heavily woven into her music, which denounces discrimination and lays taboos bare together with all the other topics society tends to ignore: depression, hypersensitivity, imposter syndrome, and self-forgiveness. Composing has always been a way for her to deconstruct her emotions and feelings, and transform them into works of art.
Her latest album “Hypersensitive”, released in March 2022, gave the artist the chance to perform at numerous venues around the world (China, Bolivia, Peru, Spain, England, Germany, and the USA). The album was rated four stars by Kulturtipp.
Afra Kane has been invited to play as an opening act for Jack Savoretti. She has also had the opportunity of performing in concert alongside John Mclaughin, Anne Pacéo, and Snarky Puppy.
She was appointed “artist in residence” for two months in 2021, at the prestigious Café Carlyle in Hong Kong, whose legacy of talents includes the likes of Eartha Kitt, Woody Allen and Bobby Short, all guest artists at the original Café in New York.
Because she is equally concerned with the causes of racism and feminism, Afra Kane was nominated ambassador for the “Neuchâtel Action Week Against Racism” in 2023.
